JOGG News
Following the first six main Dutch cities (Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Veghel and Zwolle) joining the JOGG programme during 2010, the first half of this year, the second group of JOGG-towns started with 7 new municipalities (Tynaarlo, Borger-Odoorn, Meppel, IJsselstein, Delft, Leiden and Breda). The aim is that in 2015, 75 municipalities in the Netherlands will become active JOGG towns.
JOGG Focus
The Covenant on Healthy Weight is a unique collaboration of a total of 27 actors from (national and local) governments, industry and civil society organizations, which are collectively committed to fight against the rising trend of overweight and obesity. The main goals of the covenant are increasing awareness of health risks related to overweight and obesity and achieving an arrest in the evolution of overweight and obesity in children and adults.
INTERVIEW of JOGG's Ambassador
Paul Rosenmöller, ambassador of JOGG Programme, speaks about the objectives, specificities and next steps of this large-scale initiative launched in 2010 in the Netherlands to promote healthy weights in young people. As a former active member of the Dutch parliament, Paul ROSENMOLLER had the perfect background to mobilize the forces for the cause of childhood obesity prevention. Appointed as the chair of the Covenant on Overweight and Obesity by the Minister of Health in 2005, he now develops a programme called JOGG (meaning “Youth On Healthy Weight”), based on the EPODE methodology.

THAO Healthy Summer Campus
On June 23rd, 2011 ‘special’ summer camps called ‘Campus Thao’ opened their doors to the children from 5 towns in Andalucia (Jerez de la Frontera, Barbate, La Línea de la Concepción, San Roque, Sanlúcar de Barrameda). These summer healthy camps for children aged 4 to 14 years old will last the entire summer and are from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Thao Foundation organizes them to promote healthier lifestyles through fun, physical activity and healthy and balanced diet.
Update on the last THAO season promoting fish consumption
The THAO central coordination has recently choosen to extend its communication campaign, shifting from one theme each six months to one per year. In this framework, the season “Blub, Blub, Blub Dive into a healthy sea!” was lauched in September 2010 and is focused on seafood consumption. In addition, the THAO programme has included early childhood in its target population, adapting the tools and launching a specific pilot programme in some towns. THAO Programme and its specifities

Rafael Casas, Scientific Coordinator of THAO Programme speaks about its specificities, achievements and expectations.
Rafael Casas is a medical doctor specialized in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic. He has a thirty years experience of qualitative research in the health care area, especially on food and physical activity habits. In 2005 he has been involved in the implementation of the EPODE methodology in Spain with the THAO Programme, officially launched in 2007 in 5 pilot towns.
PAIDEIATROFI Programme and its specificities
Helena Stamou, National Coordinator of PAIDEIATROFI, speaks about the programme and the challenges of its development.
PAIDEIATROFI comes from two wordplays between “PAIDI” and “PAIDEIA” meaning “child” and “education” and between “DIATROFI” and “TROFI” meaning “nutrition” and “food”. Adaptation of the EPODE methodology in Greece, the programme was launched in December 2008 with 5 pilot towns and currently 14 towns are implementing it locally. The first 4-year cycle of the programme will be completed in December 2012.
PAIDEIATROFI Focus: Actions in towns to promote vegetable consumption
The second semester of 2010 was dedicated to a theme aimed at promoting the everyday consumption of vegetables in all the towns involved in the PAIDEIATROFI programme. The local teams informed and mobilized the population around the multiple benefits of Vegetables through numerous innovative and entertaining activities. Feedback on the 2nd PAIDEIATROFI Annual Congress
The 2nd PAIDEIATROFI Annual Congress was completed successfully on Tuesday the 25th of January at the Maroussi Town Hall, one of the cities involved in the programme. The Congress aimed at presenting the activities of the programme over its second year of implementation in Greece, both at National and Local level. The complex issue of Childhood Obesity was analysed, while the very current topic of Economy and Nutrition was also explored.
Update on the last VIASANO campaigns promoting a better sleep and water consumption

VIASANO Programme and its specificities
Mireille ROILLET, Central Coordinator of VIASANO, speaks about the programme and its specificities.
VIASANO has been launched in Belgium in 2007. From two pilot towns, we are now collaborating with seven towns throughout the country. Being implemented in a multicultural nation, VIASANO illustrates well the transferability and adaptability of the EPODE methodology.
VIASANO Campaigns on the Field
For each new campaign, the VIASANO Central Coordination team develops communication and action tools with the guidance of its independant scientific committee. These toolkits, provided to each local project manager, help to generate dynamics and raise awareness among the population. Each town is encouraged to use these toolkits according to their needs and to set up local actions. In this section, let’s have a closer look at concrete actions on the field.

Raising interest in deploying EPODE similar programmes across Europe
We are now in the final year of the EPODE European Network project (EEN). This moment is the best time for a first review. This editorial summarized briefly the achievments of this project connecting research and practice to federate, give value, and enrich existing local actions and programmes aimed at preventing childhood obesity in a sustainable way through the EPODE methodology.

Changing Behaviour in the context of EPODE-like programmes

Prof. Jan Vinck, member of the VIASANO expert committee, from the University of Hasselt, describes here some psychological approaches that are used in CBIs aimed at promoting long term healthier habits in the population. The focus is on the importance of changing the local living environment through a multistakeholder approach in order to reach a sustainable change in individual behaviours.

Encouraging results in French EPODE Pilot towns
The highlight of the recent Congress of French EPODE Towns, held in Vitré on 27–28 May 2010, in the presence of Mme Roselyne Bachelot, Minister for Health and Sport (pictured left with Dr JM Borys), was the presentation of encouraging results for the prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity.
